Going Back To School? Don’t Forget Your Child’s Routine Teeth Cleaning!
As another summer wraps up and you prepare to send your kids back to school, don’t forget to add a dental checkup as an important part of your list of things to do. Dental exams are necessary to help combat tooth decay — the single most prevalent childhood disease in the country, according to the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry. Unfortunately, if decay and cavities are left untreated they can lead to more serious health complications and interfere with your child's ability to eat, speak, sleep and even focus at school.
The good news is that simple preventive dental care, including dental checkups twice a year, can make all the difference in maintaining your child’s healthy teeth and gums. During your child’s regular checkup at Grove Dental, our caring team of pediatric dentists will clean your child’s teeth and check for any problems. When detected early, many dental issues can be easily corrected, which will save your child from pain and missing school due to dental-related illnesses. Once we have identified areas that need improvement, we can provide parents with the tools to maintain and enhance their child’s oral health.
Our pediatric dentists and staff are specially trained to care for the unique dental needs of infants, children and adolescents. We cater to kids by creating a safe, fun and educational environment with pint-sized chairs and equipment, handheld video games, movies, stereo headphones, sugar-free lollipops and prizes from our office treasure chest to ease any fears your child may have about coming to the dentist. Ultimately, our goal is to establish trusting relationships and positive dental experiences with our young patients that lead to a lifelong commitment to oral health and hygiene.
Along with routine dental checkups, parents can also promote good oral health throughout the school year by encouraging kids to:
- Brush all surfaces of teeth with fluoride toothpaste for two minutes, twice a day.
- Floss at least once a day.
- Pack a toothbrush in their backpack and make a point to brush after lunch.
- Eat healthy, nutritious meals; limit sugary snacks; and avoid frequent in-between meal snacking.
Remember, although yearly dental checkups are encouraged for all children, Illinois law requires schoolchildren entering Kindergarten, 2nd and 6th grades to have a dental exam as a part of their health records. Don’t put off required appointments — beat the back to school rush and schedule your entire family’s dental checkups today.
At Grove Dental, we are celebrating the start of the new school year with a special back to school promotion for new patients. For only $49, you can bring your kids to one of our four convenient office locations for their school exam and cleaning, as well as fluoride treatment and X-rays.
Start your child’s school year off the right way — with a healthy mouth! Schedule their back to school dental visit and prevent problems from developing during that school year that can disrupt learning and other health issues.
