Have you dodged cold and flu season this winter?  Or maybe you’ve already battled a nasty head cold or viral infection? Whether you’ve been ill or not, there are a few important things you will want to remember to do in order to keep germs at bay.

One of the most important steps you can take to avoid becoming re-infected following an illness is to replace your toothbrush. That’s because germs can linger on your toothbrush bristles, prolonging your sickness or leading to relapse of your previous illness.

The American Dental Association recommends the following toothbrush care tips:

  • Replace your toothbrush at least every 3-4 months or when the bristles are frayed or worn.
  • Always replace your toothbrush after a cold or flu.
  • Rinse your toothbrush with water to remove toothpaste and debris after each use, and store upright to air-dry.
  • Never cover the toothbrush or place in a closed container while still wet, as this will allow for the growth of more bacteria.
  • If you or a family member has been ill, be sure to throw away your old toothbrush and get a new one to avoid re-contaminating yourself with germs every time you brush.
  • Never store household members’ toothbrushes together in a drawer or cabinet.

At Grove Dental, we’re here to help you smile!

Validating our Commitment to Quality, Comprehensive Dentistry for Over 40 years

Nothing speaks louder than personal experience. It’s the experience of Grove’s patients that validate what we do and keep us focused on providing quality, comprehensive and compassionate dentistry.

Today, I had an appointment at Wheaton--last minute; I was in pain and scared and felt terrible and embarrassed.  I can't tell you all how much I appreciated the courtesy and kindness--the interest and support--offered by the entire office.  The doctor’s assistant was SO wonderful, chatting during the x-rays, and expressing interest and sympathy.  The doctor explained everything so helpfully, that I wasn’t embarrassed; I felt understood and believed.  Even the wonderful woman I saw about billing and a consultation with the oral surgeon was so clear, gentle, and helpful, that it was a pleasure to go over the details.  I can't thank you enough for the wonderful work you put into your patients and care.  Even such a big baby as me felt trusted and cared for.  Thanks so much.

Dr. Shubat, Today I ate crisp bacon and, later, popcorn on my left side with absolutely no pain.  It took a week of being very careful after you did your magic, but by Thursday I felt I could bite gingerly, and today I decided to really test it.  Thank you for taking care of me.  Merry Christmas!
- Jan Sticka, Grove Patient since 1979 (Downers Grove office)

I had a wisdom tooth extracted yesterday. I'm writing to express my appreciation for (employee) at the Lombard office. She really did a great job of putting me at ease prior to the surgery. She also did a nice job explaining postoperative care tips. Please pass on my thanks and/or let her superiors know what a great job she's doing.

I wanted to let you know that (your Bolingbrook employee) went above and beyond her normal duties as a hygienist.  At my last cleaning, I had the worst headache and she got me a cold rag and kept an eye on me.  She was so caring.  She deserves a big “Thank You”.
